![]() Guralnick's books are generally considered the most authoritative and thoughtful biographies yet written about Elvis Presley. It's been several years since I've read my copy of Guralnick's book, the first in his two-part set that concluded with the recently published Careless Love. This project, according to Schilling, is budgeted at between $20-$30 million dollars, an incredibly low amount for such a lengthy period movie with so many crowded concert scenes and music rights involved. British directors Stephen Frears ( The Grifters) and Mike Newell ( Donnie Brasco) considered directing it at different times but both seem to have now moved on. This project is in development hell over at Fox 2000 with Oscar-winner Steve Tisch ( Forrest Gump) and Elvis' lifelong pal Jerry Schilling producing it. ![]() Stax here with my reaction to the screenplay for Last Train to Memphis!
